There are two excellent publications available from FireSmart Canada that can guide you and your builder to construct a FireSmart home.
News from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department
The Anarchist Mountain Fire Department (AMFD) was honoured to attend the First Responders Awards and Gala hosted by the Rotary Club of Osoyoos. The Gala was an opportunity to show appreciation and recognize the dedication of those working for our community.
2023 Quilt Raffle
Thanks to everyone who so generously supported the Quilt Raffle Draw in 2023. $2,210.00 was raised to support the Anarchist Mountain Fire Rescue Society.
Those funds will be put to use buying new vehicle extrication hardware (i.e. Jaws of Life) that is stronger and faster than what the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department have available now.
AMFRS Holds Technical Rescue Training with AMFD
Last week, local firefighters had the opportunity to enhance their expertise in technical rescue skills which was organized by the Anarchist Mountain Fire Rescue Society.
Border Sprinkler Line Test a Success
This past spring, the Anarchist Mountain Fire Rescue Society received a grant from Wawanesa Insurance to help make the mountain safer during wildfire season.
The idea was the brainchild of Wildfire Prevention/FireSmart Lead, Gerry Moran, who also led the organization of a 1 km sprinkler line test close to the U.S. border this past July.
AMFD 20th Anniversary
In February 2003, a group of dedicated Anarchists started the Anarchist Mountain Volunteer Fire Department.
On Saturday, October 14th the current AMFD members hosted 68 people, including some original members, retired and current members and spouses, and invited guests from other departments at the 20th Anniversary Celebration.
A Work of Art at the AMFD Firehall
The AMFD storage sea can was transformed into a work of art this summer thanks to a Neighbourhood Small Grant. The design for the sea can mural was created by Kimberley Houghton, based on suggestions gathered from community members at the July BBQ and the mural committee. Alexander Lopez, a local muralist, provided valuable mentorship.
Anarchist Mountain Quilters
For the second year in a row the Anarchist Mountain Quilters have been busy crafting a quilt that will be used to raise funds for the Anarchist Mountain Fire Rescue Society (AMFRS). AMFRS uses the funds to purchase life-saving equipment.
Who are the Anarchist Mountain Quilters? Last year a group of crafters joined Pat Edney and Helen Malloy to get together over a mutual love of quilting. Some members were new to the craft, and some were expert quilters, but with the help of a Neighbourhood Small Grant, a beautiful community quilt was produced and over $2,000 was raised.
Open Burning Season Has Begun
Open burning (category 2 and 3) is now permitted and is in effect from October 15, 2023 – April 15, 2024. Residents are required to complete a Burn Authorization application in order to obtain a burn permit (at no cost).
