Spring is in full swing and the list of events is a long one! The wineries and theatres have plenty on offer and the good weather welcomes live music, outdoor dining and festival activities. Visit the market, learn about local creatures or check out the drag races…there’s literally something happening for every taste!
Here on Anarchist Mountain, we are typically Hardiness Zone 3 which is equivalent to gardening in Calgary, Alberta. Leave the fruit trees for the farmers down on the valley floor! Plenty of vegetables and fruit can thrive at our altitude.

Our 12th annual FireSmart day was a big success with about 100 attendees and more than 30 new residents. Thank-you to all the presenters, volunteers, AMFD fire fighters, BC Wildfire fire fighters and Ember the FireSmart fox who helped to make the day a success. Another thank-you to Anarchist Mountain residents new and old, who continue to make our whole community a little bit safer from wildfires by supporting our FireSmart program again this year.

Did you know that we have wild turkeys on Anarchist Mountain? You may have observed wacky looking tracks in the mud or winter snow that look like something straight out of Jurassic Park. If they looked like this, it’s a wild turkey!
All of May, the Workout to Conquer Cancer, is a call to connect, fundraise and move for each other, and everyone facing cancer.
Mountain resident and local dragon boat paddler Diane Pelle is leading a team of friends, family, and residents to get moving, for just 30 minutes everyday…all in the name of supporting world-leading innovation in research and care at BC Cancer.
“Staying fit and getting a F.I.T.” are just a couple of reasons why she is participating and inspiring others to join in.
This year the Anarchist Mountain FireSmart Committee will be posting reminders on social media prior to each Wapiti Pit weekend and we’ll pass out the yearly schedule at the pit. The FireSmart Committee is also looking for volunteers to help us manage Wapiti pit – this is a great opportunity to greet and meet fellow Anarchist Mountain residents. In the past few years, Anarchist Mountain residents have enjoyed ‘neighbour organized’ community activities with financial support from the South Okanagan Similkameen Neighbourhood Small Grant (SOS NSG) program. A 2023 project, ‘An Artistic Tribute to our Volunteer Fire Fighters’ is featured on the SOS NSG home page. It is that time of year again, when wildlife such as bears, coyotes and other critters are out and about, and looking for food.
In the past, Anarchist Mountain has had bears come dangerously close to people and pets. Fortunately, since residents have been educated of how to manage attractants and co-exist with our wildlife, these issues have decreased significantly over time.
We all know how important recycling is for the environment, so it just makes sense to do it.
But do you get confused as to what goes in your curbside bin and what goes to the depot? Here’s a quick refresher.
Most packaging and paper can be collected curbside or can be taken to depots for recycling. A few items are only accepted at depots, such as in Osoyoos and Oliver.
