Neighbourhood Small Grant

Earlier this year we received a Neighbourhood Small Grant to host a block party for the Peregrine, Mule Deer, Falcon and Eagle Place streets. After a lot of planning, delays due to wildfires and smoke, the event was held on September 10th. It was a beautiful day for the Driveway Dinner and the guests arrived for a long table dinner and a chance for everyone to celebrate with members from the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department.

The tables, chairs, table cloths and coffee maker were borrowed from the Anarchist Mountain Community Society and the Fire Department provided the grill. The grant was used to purchase supplies and food that included salmon prepared on a smoker and chicken grilled on the BBQ. Neighbours contributed delicious appetizers, salads, bread, desserts, and flower arrangements for the tables. Home brewed beer samples were a big hit.

The event was inspired by the need to connect and inform residents about volunteer opportunities and raise awareness of the ENPrep system that will send automated messages in the case of local emergencies.

If you would like to organize a block party for your neighbourhood you can apply in the spring and could receive a grant of up to $500 from the Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen. Everyone agreed it was a wonderful way to meet new residents and connect with old friends – looking forward to next year!
