Deposits Make a Difference

Did you know that your refundable containers help support the Anarchist Mountain Fire Rescue Society’s specialized rescue and medical teams on the mountain?

Over the years, residents of the Anarchist Mountain community have been dropping off their empty wine, beer, pop, juice, water and milk containers at the Fire Hall to be sorted by volunteers and taken into the recycling depot for refund.

The volunteers devote many hours to the effort, and appreciate receiving clean, refundable containers, as all items have to be handled and taken to the depot in their own vehicles.

Ideally, all containers should be rinsed, not crushed, and have labels remaining in place.

The following product containers do not have a deposit added and should go in your recycling bin:

  • Whipping cream
  • Coffee cream or other coffee additives
  • Buttermilk
  • Drinkable yogurt
  • Infant formula
  • Dietary or meal supplement
  • Any dairy concentrates
  • Condensed or evaporated milk
  • Homemade wine bottles (i.e. do not have labels)
  • American beer cans

If you aren’t sure what can be returned for deposit, go to Return-It for more info.

To date, funding has been used towards the purchase of:

  • Rope Rescue Equipment
  • AED
  • Stretcher Wheel
  • Struts for Auto Extrication

Mike Arychuk, President of AMFRS says, “The equipment purchased through your donations allows us to be that much faster when lives are at stake… every minute counts. AMFRS is very grateful to the community for their continued support of this critical fundraising effort”.

So, the next time you see the fire department attending a scene, you know your donated empties are helping our first responders in lifesaving efforts.
