OPEN HOUSE – FAREWELL

Greetings friends and neighbors of Gerrit and Wia Neinhuis.

We would like to invite you to an Open House Farewell celebration at the Summit Center on Thursday June 29th between 7 and 9 pm. Come out and say your ‘goodbyes’ to a great couple who will be missed. If possible, please bring an appy or a desert and your beverage of choice. Hope you can make it.

Hike – Whistler Canyon Trail

Weather permitting, this coming Saturday, June 17, we plan to hike Whistler Canyon trail which some of you have heard about.  The trailhead is located 3 miles south of Oroville, turn east/left of Hwy. 97.

If you are interested in joining us, here are some details:

We plan to leave from the trailhead parking lot promptly at 9:30 AM
Traveling time to trailhead from Anarchist Mtn. residences (including standard customs clearance) – approximately 45 minutes
Moderate hike with elevation gain, steady uphill, approximately 2 hours one way.

Bring usual hiking gear including boots, water, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, hiking poles if you use them.  Recommend long pants and long sleeves.
We will go to the view point on the Black Diamond Trail.  Below is a photo taken form this viewpoint, which looks straight north over Oroville and the length of Osoyoos Lake.
We will linger at the view point long enough so that participants can enjoy the view, have a snack etc.

After the hike, we plan to stop for a meal or refreshments in an Oroville establishment.

The Community Society appreciates the volunteer efforts of residents for their help with grounds maintenance at the Summit Centre last weekend.

These efforts not only keep the Summit  Centre looking good, but these volunteer hours also count towards our FireSmart programs.

Keeping the Summit Centre neat and tidy is a reflection of our pride in our community.

Yard Refuse Disposal this Saturday at the Wapiti Pit

Yard Refuse Disposal  2017 – OMEI Wapiti Pit 

The Wapiti pit will be open this Saturday, June 10th from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.

The site will be used to dispose of yard materials to Aid in FireSmarting your property. Examples of materials accepted are:

  • Grass, leaves, needles etc.
  • Brush, branches etc.

Please Note:

  • Items being brought in bags, boxes, etc. are to be emptied and the containers taken away.
  • NO construction debris is to be brought in.
  • Any abuse of the site will result in its immediate closure.

A member of AMCS/FireSmart committee will open and close the site and also monitor the origin and material coming into the site.

The site is located in Wapiti.  Turn onto Wapiti and take the first road to the right.
