ABOUT AMCS

Building community involvement in the preservation and enjoyment of Anarchist Mountain’s natural and cultural environment

The Anarchist Mountain Community Society (AMCS), is a not-for-profit community group formed in 2008. The Community Society brings together the interests of residents and landowners on Anarchist Mountain to create a sense of community, preserve its natural setting and promote living in harmony with the native flora and fauna of the Mountain. The Community Society has been successful in being a forum for community discussion, working towards making the Mountain an exceptional place to live.

Anarchist Mountain is located 15 km. east of the Town of Osoyoos, BC, Canada; in southern British Columbia at a border crossing with the USA. Located about 1 hr. south of Penticton (population 40,000) and 2 hrs. from Kelowna (population 150,000).

Our community includes the Sidley Mountain area, with rural residents overlooked by the nearby Mount Baldy ski area. There are about 200 homes in the community with more being built every year. Summers are warm and cooler than the valley as we are at 3,000 ft. above sea level.

The life experience and diversity of neighbours from all parts of the world is inspiring.  As the community grows and matures, there is an excitement building that the best is yet to come. Through community events, winter and summer outings, and lectures from professional presenters, residents continue to expand their understanding of the wonders of living up here on Anarchist & Sidley Mountains.

We have a vibrant local community scene with people getting together for knitting clubs, music groups, Pilates & Yoga classes, or working on our FireSmart Program to organizing and attending concerts. Professional entertainers perform creating wonderful community gatherings to share with friends. In the summer we have hosted Market on the Mountain events, and an annual community BBQ and Silent Auction at which the community raises funds in support of the Anarchist Mountain Fire Department. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in any of our events whether you are a member or not.

The AMCS is busting with pride for our community – and we are always happy to help introduce you to the area, or help find a needed service up here on “the hill”. If you need more information, send us an email.

All our Directors and committee volunteers donate their time for the betterment of our community.  Our thanks go out to each of them for their commitment to make this The Best Place on Earth! to live.
