Dear Residents of Anarchist and Sidley mountain,
Your FireSmart Committee is a non-profit group, that is part of the Anarchist Mountain Community Society (AMCS). FireSmart supports initiatives to aid our community with knowledge and activities to lessen the impacts of a wildfire in our community. Further information on these activities can be found at https://anarchistmountaincommunitysociety.com/firesmart
One of the main programs of the group is the running of the Wapiti Pit for yard and brush refuse disposal. This activity greatly enhances the fire safety of our community by having combustible materials taken and disposed of in one location. In the past the FireSmart Committee has received government grants to support certain activities, such as hiring an excavator to manage the brush pile before burning it. Every year hundreds of loads of brush are brought to the Wapiti Pit by residents, with this material burned under the supervision of our Fire Dept. when it is safe to do so. FireSmart is funded by the AMCS to maintain the Wapiti Pit and to support the BBQ and knowledge session at the annual FireSmart Day, and come from annual membership dues. We are still seeking government support and any thoughts on other grant options would be welcome. We hope that residents will continue to support FireSmart by being members of AMCS.
