ANARCHIST MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY
PARTICIPATION IN CANADA DAY PARADE 2018
Well we pulled it off in grand style and had lots of fun and much laughter. We were awarded and recognized for “Best Community Organization Parade Entry 2018”. This was an achievement as there were only four categories in which ribbons were awarded. Not bad for a first effort! We celebrated our success at a Float After Party where AMCS Board Member Alex Giovannelli thanked the Float Committee and all participants for their drive, determination and ingenuity.
Our theme “Life on the Mountain” was meant to showcase and encourage folks to learn more about who we are. Community residents from Grizzly, Whitetail, Bullmoose, Sasquatch, Mule Deer, Eagle Point, Caribou and Sidley were involved in the planning, decorating and/or participated in the Canada Day Parade itself. The AMFD loaned us the
Tender vehicle and with the money provided by the Community Foundation South Okanagan Similkameen Neighbourhood Small Grant program, the community purchased three quality banners which can be used at many community events in the future. Our outfits included a bird watcher, a photographer, a wildflower lady, a cyclist, a baby owl
and her family, a moose and a Sasquatch. We handed out hard candies from the Candy Store which was a big hit with the children. We encourage you to come out and join in the fun next year, even if you’re not available Canada Day, it’s a great way of connecting with more people on the mountain and getting to know your neighbours.
