COMMUNITY MEETING – SEPT 13, 2017
SUMMIT CENTRE 7:00 PM
UPCOMING FORTIS RATE APPLICATION
Dear Mountain Neighbours,
The Anarchist Mountain Community Society (AMCS) is inviting all Mountain Residents, not just our members, to a meeting to discuss FORTIS’ Upcoming Electricity Rate Application. The AMCS is considering being an intervener in this rate application for the Anarchist Mountain region. Nick Marty will make a short presentation on how the regulatory process for a rate application works, the nature of the intervention and how residents might input. If your electricity costs are a concern to you and you want to see something done about them, please come out on September 13th.
Fortis is expected to file their rate application in November. They have held two public meetings in Osoyoos, one in June and one in July. At the July meeting, FORTIS presented their “analysis” of different rate options and it appears that they will be seeking to retain the current two-tier pricing structure with only minor modifications. As many of you know, this pricing system unfairly discriminates against customers using electricity for space and water heating, charging them exorbitant rates, much higher than those being charged to the majority of FORTIS’ customers.
The BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) is encouraging customers to group together and apply to be interveners. The BCUC will provide accepted interveners with funding to cover the costs of legal counsel, specialists and expert witnesses, so there will be no cost to AMCS members or Mountain residents.
Provided residents are in general agreement with the AMCS seeking to become an intervener, the AMCS will take next steps such as determining the best law firm to act as legal counsel and seeking out other possible interveners (such as the Regional District of Okanagen-Similkameen) with whom we can coordinate our submission.
