With the addition of new residents in the last couple of years, we thought we’d provide information on the knitting group and what is happening on the mountain on Wednesday afternoons during the fall, winter and spring months.
About 7 years ago, two neighbours, Sue Terada and Margrit Johnson got together to knit and socialize. Now there is a larger group from the mountain and town that meet on Wednesdays. The squares we knit are sewn together into blankets which are donated to the Safe House operated by Desert Sun Counseling, and to some other homes and agencies. Besides making blankets we also knit scarves, slippers and dish cloths. Some knit hats for new born babies, which are donated to the maternity ward at the Penticton Hospital. For more information on Desert Sun, their website is www.desertsuncounselling.ca
There are skilled craftspeople in the group who kindly and patiently help basic knitters improve their ability, even if someone has not done any knitting before, or not touched a pair of needles since Brownies or knitting that basic scarf in high school. A fine example of where neighbours become friends, this group has been particularly helpful to newcomers to the area. If anyone would like more information on the group, feel free to contact anyone of us or e-mail margrit@vip.net , 250 495 0612
While most knitters supply their own yarn, we are putting out a request to the community. If you have or know of a supply of yarn you would like to donate, it would be very much appreciated.
New participants are always welcome to join us on Wednesdays and the first meeting day this fall is September 21st.
