Hello Anarchist Yogis!

I’m looking forward to seeing you again at the Summit Centre for more yoga classes in 2016. The first yoga class will be on Tuesday January 5 at 9:30 am.

Some of you have requested a Mat Pilates class, and I’d love to teach one. Possible times are Wednesday mornings at 9:30, Thursday mornings at 9:30, or Monday evenings at 5:30. Could you kindly respond to the survey at the end of this post, so we can gauge interest? I would like to begin the second week of January. As with Yoga, the class will be drop-in, and $10 per class.

Pilates is a safe and effective way to re-educate our bodies through movement, and increase physical awareness through connecting to breath. Pilates trains for natural, correct and efficient movement, and focuses on core strength and proper alignment. The emphasis on deep stabilizer muscles allows us to be more aware of our posture and move efficiently and confidently, preventing injury.

In addition to alignment and core stabilization, Pilates focuses on coordination, balance, grace and agility. Some of the proven benefits of Pilates include building bone density, increasing joint mobility, improving muscle tone and posture, and improving overall strength and flexibility. Pilates, like Yoga, is performed barefoot on a mat.
