ENCOMM After 2 Years

What an amazing 2 years it has been since the idea came to light one snowy evening during the Anarchist Mountain Community Society’s AGM in late November 2013 when Wendy Barlow, Sue McEvoy, Richard Douziech and Carolyne Strohmann eagerly raised their hands when volunteers were asked for the “Communications Committee” … little did we know what an amazing, unique ride this would be and where it would take us, and you, the community of Anarchist Mountain …

So, with all the wildland fires in the Okanagan as of late, we are taking this opportunity to re-introduce your EN-Comm team, their history and primary mandates and how it affects Anarchist Mountain residents … please read below on the PDF link  ….

Think of the Wildlife during the Smoke

Hi All,

This is a message from Patti, your webmaster.

While all of us are hating the smoke and retreating inside and shutting our doors and windows and turning on our furnace fans for filtering, all the wonderful wildlife is stuck outside dealing with the smoke 24/7.  I have never seen so many birds at my birdbath.  Their little throats and lungs must be so sore.  If you haven’t already, consider putting out a shallow dish of water.  The birds will drink and bath in it.

But…the main reason for this post is that my hubby (Bernard) and I just saw a small Mule Deer buck being chased by 2 dogs.  The deer was running for it’s life and being chased by a golden retriever and a large, muscular dark-haired, short-haired dog.  The chase went on for a long time and Bernard ran to the road (Peregrine Dr.) but there was no owner in sight.

It’s normal for dogs to want to chase deer, marmots, etc. but, given the stress our wildlife is under right now, I’m asking you to please keep your dogs under control.

Air Quality Advisory – Southern BC

Hello all……

Not that you haven’t noticed, but the smoke conditions on Anarchist Mountain are prevalent over a large area of Washington and British Columbia. Environment Canada advises that air quality is poor, and out-door activities in the Southern Okanagan should be restricted where possible. Persons with respiratory conditions are particularly advised to be prudent with outdoor exposure.

The smoke is originating from fires in Washington state with a South Easterly flow of air expected to continue for several days. Environment Canada predicts improving conditions near the end of next week, with possible rain late in the week.

Think Positive

Although we are currently all somewhat focused on the hazards of where we live, I felt it important to share the positive side. We all have chosen to live here and it’s “for better or worse”.

Here are some positives!
