Have you ever seen a Chukar?

A local resident sent in these pictures and this commentary:

” These Chukars have been around here for only about three years. These particular ones may be offspring from last year as I hear others on a hill that may be the parents.  They tend to be really shy and are off at the slightest hint of danger”

I also saw a flock of them last year and yes, they are very timid and ran for cover.  I had never seen them before and looked them up and it seems they were introduced here as game birds (part of the Partridge family).  BTW, this is a great website for identifying birds:  http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Chukar/id  …Patti

Great photos from our resident:

We have a couple here on Observatory RD. We have a feeding station (cracked corn in a poultry feeder) and they come everyday, along with a bevy of quail. Yes they are shy, but are getting a little bit better, not flying away when they detect movement inside the house, through a window.
